Update on Rocky's Triplets [May. 6th, 2006|10:31 am]
[Tags|, ]
[Current Location |Home]
[mood | fits of weeping]

Earlier in the week, Rocky, informed me that he, Mara and Mia would be moving to Orlando.

This means that my Triplet grandbabies won't be here for me to love and Mia, my little love, is leaving my immediate world, too.

My heart has broken in places that I wasn't aware hadn't been broken already.

I've realized that ever since I put the last diapers on my children, I have dreamt of the days that they would place their own precious children in my arms.

I've loved every baby I was ever around.

I raised a baby that was abandoned by it's mother for it's first 6 months so it's father could work.

I've gone wild with delight as my children's friends babies have been born and I've rushed to see them in the hospital, not being able to wait to meet them.

And so, Rocky's Baby, my First Grandchild, turned out to be Twins..no...Triplets! My heart could hardly contain the joy as I planned a million ways to help out and love, love, love those babies.

Now, the joy is bridled with extreme, bittersweet pain and my heart leaps and crashes all at once.

Like a wise friend recently said, "That Which Doesn't Kill Me, Makes Me Stronger!"

Look out world...It seems something big is in the works.

[info]thrakar is Hurt [Feb. 4th, 2006|12:15 am]
[Tags|]
[mood | a little freaked out]

Poor [info]thrakar took a really bad fall while showering today. He fell OUT of the shower, hit his back on the toilet, knocked it loose from the ground, sent it slamming into the cabinet 6 inches to the right and landed on his back on the floor. I heard the hugest commotion and a thunderous thud and went running to see about him. There he lay on the bathroom floor, flat on his back, his feet behind the shower curtain with the shower still running on them. He couldn't get up by himself and I feared I'd have to call the Paramedics. After about a thirty minute try, he was finally able to use two kitchen chairs, with me sitting on one to keep it still, to pull himself up from the floor.
He's rested in bed and on the couch this afternoon and evening. He can barley move to get up and go to the bathroom.
He's a big 'ol boy to be hitting the toilet and floor that hard.
He insists he's bruised, but not broken.
Maybe he'll let me take him to the doctor tomorrow.

Happy 2006 to Everyone!

I'm here and about. I'm quiet, yes. Life is a little hectic and sometimes it feels a tad over-whelming.
Yesterday, my mom got a diagnosis of Pulmonary Hypertension. It's the second, rare, non-curable disease she has. So far the Multiple Myeloma has been kept pretty symptom free; for 5 years. The Pulmonary Hypertension already is causing her breathing problems. She gets winded and short of breath; fatigued; walking from her livingroom to her bedroom. This one only gets worse. She'll go to a nebulizer, to oxygen; to a wheelchair to bedridden. She most likely will die in 1-2 years of right-side heart failure.
I'm on medication for the Pseudotumor Cerebri/Intracranial Hypertension. I think I'm supposed to go for a follow up in about 2 weeks, but honestly I haven't even made the appointment. Mom just keeps me jumping with her stuff. I haven't lost any weight which is a big deal along with the medication. It's just hard to do over the holidays.
My daughter went to the Peach Drop tonight.
My son, his fiance and her daughter drove to Orlando to be with her people for a few days.
Jimmy is catching up on some household chores while I nurse my cold and upset tummy.
We must be getting old or something.
Anyway, here's wishing you all a sweet New Year.

Symptoms of Stroke [Dec. 22nd, 2005|12:43 pm]
[Tags|]
[mood | dreaming that x-mas is over]

1. *Ask the individual to SMILE.

2. *Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

3. *Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (i.e. .
. It is sunny out today) If he or she has trouble with any of these
tasks, call 9-1-1 immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

During a BBQ, Ingrid stumbled and took a little fall. She
assured everyone that she was fine and had just tripped over
a brick because of her new shoes. They got her cleaned up and got
her a new plate of food. While she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid
went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening. At 3:00 AM a
friend received a call from Ingrid's husband telling her that his
wife had been taken to the hospital. At 6:00pm, Ingrid passed away.
She had suffered a stroke at the BBQ. Had they known how to
identify the signs of a stroke perhaps Ingrid would be with us today.

It only takes a minute to read this-

Recognizing a Stroke

----- A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim
within 3 hours, he can totally reverse the effects of a
stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke
recognized, diagnosed and getting to the patient within 3 hours
which is tough.

Thank goodness for the sense to remember the "3" steps. Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify.
Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The
stroke victim may suffer brain damage when people nearby fail to
recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking
three simple questions:

After discovering that a group of non-medical volunteers could
identify facial weakness, arm weakness and speech problems,
researchers urged the general public to learn the three questions.
They presented their conclusions at the American Stroke
Association's annual meeting last February. Widespread use of this
test could result in prompt diagnosis and treatment of the stroke
and prevent brain damage.

Many of us with see elderly relatives this holiday. If they haven't been in the eggnog you might just save a life by knowing these things.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to
10 people; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.

BE A FRIEND AND SHARE THIS ARTICLE WITH AS MANY FRIENDS AS
POSSIBLE, you could save someones life.

Stop Rape At It's Root [Dec. 1st, 2005|10:43 pm]
[Tags|]
[mood | Serious]

A lot has been said about how to prevent rape.
Women should learn self-defense. Women should lock themselves in their houses after dark. Women shouldn't have long hair and women shouldn't wear short skirts. Women shouldn't leave drinks unattended. Fuck, they shouldn't dare to get drunk at all.

Instead of that bullshit, how about:

If a woman is drunk, don't rape her.
If a woman is walking alone at night, don't rape her.
If a women is drugged and unconscious, don't rape her.
If a woman is wearing a short skirt, don't rape her.
If a woman is jogging in a park at 5 am, don't rape her.
If a woman looks like your ex-girlfriend you're still hung up on, don't rape her.
If a woman is asleep in her bed, don't rape her.
If a woman is asleep in your bed, don't rape her.
If a woman is doing her laundry, don't rape her.
If a woman is in a coma, don't rape her.
If a woman changes her mind in the middle of or about a particular activity, don't rape her.
If a woman has repeatedly refused a certain activity, don't rape her.

If a woman is not yet a woman, but a child, don't rape her.
If your girlfriend or wife is not in the mood, don't rape her.
If your step-daughter is watching tv, don't rape her.
If you break into a house and find a woman there, don't rape her.
If your friend thinks it's okay to rape someone, tell him it's not, and that he's not your friend.

If your "friend" tells you he raped someone, report him to the police.
If your frat-brother or another guy at the party tells you there's an unconscious woman upstairs and It's your turn, don't rape her, call the police and tell the guy he's a rapist.

Tell your sons, god-sons, nephews, grandsons, sons of friends it's not okay to rape someone.

Don't tell your women friends how to be safe and avoid rape.
Don't imply that she could have avoided it if she'd only done/not done x.
Don't imply that it's in any way her fault.
Don't let silence imply agreement when someone tells you he "got some" with the drunk girl.
Don't perpetuate a culture that tells you that you have no control over or responsibility for your actions. You can, too, help yourself.

If you agree, repost it. It's that important.

(ps: If she changes her mind after the fact, it's regrettable, not rape.)

My reply in a friend's LJ about my spiritual life [Nov. 29th, 2005|01:40 am]
[Tags|]
[mood | reflective]

I understand your feelings. For myself, I have chosen the solitary path. It's lonesome without the company of others, but it's sure.

I've earned a reputation with some of the local pagans. They believe that I look down my nose at them and that I am critical of their methods.
They are correct. If I am alone because of that, in the larger picture, I am proud.

The solitary road allows you to focus more on the work that your soul needs to do. Social interactions confuse and distract. I'd rather not spend my time feeling all bummed out due to the actions of others.

I don't miss the clearly outlined right/wrong of Christianity, but I do understand how simple a life that is. It's like a nephew of mine who seemed to go out of his way to always be locked up. He didn't have to think for himself on the inside. He was told what to do.

I hear a strong inner-voice that I base my decisions and values on. Rules and laws seem made for those un-able or un-willing to think for themselves.

I am frustrated with the "don't say or do anything that makes our family look bad" imperative. I've covered up the sexual abuse of my brother on me for 40 years. It's a terrible burden to bear for the sake of others. My mother would immediately turn it into some kind of suffering situation for herself and never consider what I'd been through. Like I said, walking my path in solitude isn't easy.

The God of the Christian's is what is wrong with both of my parents. (My dad is deceased) I loathe the whole mindset of most people who call themselves Christian.

The God/dess that I know today is parenting me. That is something I need; something I missed growing up. On the outside I'm 45 years old and sandwiched between my aging mother and my children and being a partner and friend to my husband. I'm seen as pretty capable of helping them all. On the inside, I'm a child who tries to scratch out a little time for myself and my God/dess to cover the lessons and nurturing that I sorely need.

Will my inner-child and my outer adult ever reach a point of merging? Perhaps one day; I hope.

[info]thrakar's Birthday [Nov. 22nd, 2005|08:14 pm]
[Tags|, ]
[mood | melancholy]

Today is [info]thrakar's Birthday.

We started the day by burying our 15 year old cat, Smokey. She died in our arms last night. It was horrible. It took her 45 minutes to die. She was in pain and we couldn't help her at all. I think she had a heart attack. We didn't get to sleep until 4:30 this morning.

After we buried the cat we had to take my mother to the grocery store. That was a madhouse.

He went to band practice after that and I know that brightened things for him.
I'm here wondering how to salvage the rest of his birthday when he arrives home later tonight.

He's a wonderful person and I love him very much. Happy Birthday, My Love. I'm sorry it wasn't such a great one.

Trick or Treat [Nov. 1st, 2005|08:50 am]
[Tags|]
[mood | just wondering]

If you were home last night, how many "Trick or Treat-ers" do you estimate you had come to your door?

And do you think all the activities hosted by churches are enticing kids away from "Trick or Treat-ing"?

I had about 15 which is a lot more than 3 years ago, which was the last time I stayed home on Halloween.  That year we had 3 toddlers brought to our door.  We decided to go out to dinner on Halloween for the next couple of years because that year was so depressing.

This year I had seen a few new kids that had moved into the neighborhood and felt hopeful.  We decorated out doors like crazy, including outlining the entire front yard with orange lights.

As we sat awaiting the first kid we decided that the decorating had been fun and was awesome looking and that if it turned out that it had been only for our pleasure, it was worth it.

I personally dislike the various Christian churches involvement and distraction from "Trick or Treat-ing".  Sure some children live where it is undesirable to go out door-to-door, but it's fun to put them in the car and take them to nicer neighborhoods.  Which may be another thing that has happened to our "Trick or Treaters".  We use to be the only subdivision on the highway for miles.  Now there are several newer and nicer neighborhoods to take the children to.  I use to drive my kids to nicer neighborhoods because ours was small and the less financially well off didn't decorate like the "richer" neighborhoods did.  Still, we always went to all the houses in our subdivision first.

Anyway, this is just sort of a mini-rant about Halloween and "Trick or Treat-ing" seemingly dying off.
